   World Scout Jamboree is recruiting passionate and responsible interpreter volunteers for the World Scout Jamboree foreign curriculum activity “Experience of Temple Culture” in August 2023 in Jeollabuk-do. First of all, let us overview the event. World Scout Jamboree is a global youth camp festival held by the World Scout Federation every four years.

   It is the world’s largest international youth event in which tens of thousands of teenagers and leaders from 170 member countries participate. It shares cultural exchanges and fraternity through various programs to help teenagers grow into global citizens.

   The event period is August 1st to 12th, 2023, about 12 days. Location is Saemangeum, North Jeolla Province. It is sponsored and hosted by the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, the Korea Scout Federation and Jeonbuk Jamboree Promotion Team. Different countries interact across nationalities, ethnicities, religions, and languages to promoting friendship.

   In addition, from July 29th to 31st, there will be a Pre-program, admission, and pre-education of operational staff as a launching ceremony. From August 1st to 12th, there will be World Jamboree activities such as course activities, cultural exchange experiences, exhibition performances, etc. From August 13th to 14th, retired management staff and postprogram will be operated.

   “Experience of temple culture” activity for foreign courses is one of the most important events. For summary: 8,960 foreign youths visiting Korea. The date is August 2nd to 5th, 7th to 10th, and eight days. The program will take about 6 hours, from 10:30 A.M. to 16:30 P.M..

   The application period is until Sunday, June 11th. The number of applicants is 28 in total. Volunteers will give interpretation support for the temple culture experience program conducted at the relevant temple through English. Completion of interpreter training is one night and two days program from June to July. Details will be found later.

   Let us look at the eligibility for application. A person who can operate a temple culture experience program in English is needed. A full-time participant over 18 years old and a local or foreigner (who can communicate in Korean) are all accepted.

   It will be an excellent chance for someone interested in and understanding Buddhism, temples, and temple stays. The prescribed activity cost is 500,000 won (tax included), and the host will provide four tickets for the temple stay experience. Visit Dongguk University’s website for more information.
