Implementing age restrictions to drivers is a hot potato these days, expecially after the tragic accident where two highschoolers were killed after being hit by a car, drove by a man in his 70s, recently. Driving is known to be one of the most dangerous activities people do on a daily basis, according to statistics, and it does require sharp relfexes and constant focus. Therefore, there are opinions about setting age restrictions for the driver's lecense. Those who agree claim that age restrictions should be set because the decline of one's overall physical ability might cause deadly accidents. However, I disagree about setting age restrictions to driving for the following three main reasons.

First, there are places where public transportation is not developed. According to Statistics Korea (KOSTAT), public transportation does not exist at all in 2,224 Korean cillages. Also, 69.4% of these cillages does not have general hospitals nearby, and have to drive over 30 minutes by car to reach one. In other words, in some country sides of Korea, you literally can not go anywhere, even to a hospital, without a car. Considering tht the average age of Korea's countryside is high due to the rural-urban migration of the youths, setting restrictions for driving based on age may have problematic consequences in such areas.

Second, such retrictions are not realistic, expecially when Korea is facing an extreme aging society. According to Korean National Plice Agency, as of September 2021, over four million individuals over the age of 65, had a driver's license, and the number is increasing at a high speed over the years. Invalidating over four million driver's licenses is unrealistic and impossible to do.

Lastly, setting the standards are not easy, thus, no one knows where exactly to draw the line. Since driving is so attached to the quality of life, restricting it is a sensitive problem. Considering this, universal restrictions, such as age (number-wise), can become a problem because aging is a personal process. No one ages physically the same, but everyone ages at a different speed. Therefore, no one knows what the exact age of the restriction should be-because there isn't one!

In summary, I think there should not be age restrictions for driving because there are areas where public transportation is underdeveloped, such retrictions are unrealistic in an aging society, and the standard are vague due to the personal process of physical aging. As a solution, I think instead of retricting people from a cerain age, extending the validity of license through periodic driving tests would be more effective.
