‘2009 Namsangol Winter Retreat Festival'’, an annual event to promote Korean culture, will be held at Han-ok-ma-eul in Chungmuro, located near exits 3 and 4 of Chungmuro station on subway lines 3 and 4,  from November 14th to 15th.   The festival will present several examples of how Koreans once prepared for the long winter; this, inevitably, will include how to make Kimchi and soybean.  There will be several things to enjoy; for example, traditional dances accompanied by musicians using traditional instruments, Kosung Nonygyo, a song sung by farmers during cultivation in Kosung, and tightrope walking.  Additionally, the public will be encouraged to join-in in various events such as making rice cakes, kneading dough, making tofu and practicing traditional artwork. All of this will be free.  The festival is a way for foreign students to understand Korean culture a little bit more; while for Korean students it may make them reflect more highly on their own tradition. Admission is also free.  For more information, visit www.hanokmaeul.org or call (02)2266-6923.
