On May 18, a Buddhist lecture was held to commemorate the 95th anniversary of Dongguk University under the joint auspices of DU Buddhist Professor Association and Buddhist Ascetic Practices Association, including Bohyunheoi, in the Main Auditorium.The lecture, entitled "You can see yourself only when you don't cling to your flesh," was given by Seon (Zen) Master Daehaeng, who is the president of Hanmaum, Seon Center of the Korean Buddhist Chogye Order, in Anyang, Kyonggi province. A large crowd of people, including President Song Suk-ku, participated and showed much interest in the lecture.Seon Master Daehaeng said that we should be relieved of the flesh and rise above self-interest to live an inner life and take pleasure in practicing Zen meditation in order to discover our ego. "Then, we can see ourselves clearly and enjoy our lives," she said.Seon Master Daehaeng is well known for practicing asceticism since 1950 and has experienced a spiritual awakening. She also opened 21 Seon centers at home and abroad and taught about 100 tonsure disciples.
