Commemorating the 95th anniversary of the founding of DU, "International Workshop on Quantum Transport in Synthetic Metals and Quantum Functional Semiconductors, 2001" was held at DU from May 8 to 11.Five Nobel Prize winners participated in this international workshop: Professor J. R. Schrieffer and K. von Klitzing in Physics, and Professor A. J. Heeger, A. G. MacDiarmid, and Shirakawa Hideki in Chemistry. Also attending was  T. Claeson, President of the Board of Examiners for the Nobel Prize in Physics as well as 100 specialists from 12 countries. This international workshop was held under the joint auspices of DU Quantum-Functional Semiconductor Research Center and Seoul National University Condensed Matter Research Institute Department of Physics. This kind of international workshop in which five Nobel laureates participated with only one theme is a first for   Korea. The Nobel laureates who participated in this workshop gave special lectures to university students during the workshop. On May 10, Professor K. von Klitzing, Nobel laureate for Physics in 1985, gave a special lecture on a subject related to "Basic Research on Microstructured Semiconductors" in the Main Auditorium.
